VERSATILITY TEST:  FIELD TEST REQUIREMENTS

The test shall consist of a short backcourse of at least ten (10) minutes and not more than fifteen (15) minutes and a bird field (as set forth in the AKC Field Trial Rules) of at least five (5) minutes and not more than eight (8) minutes in which at least two (2) game birds or pigeons have been planted. Dogs may be run singly or as a brace.

To pass this Test a Vizsla must exhibit a natural desire to hunt, must locate and point a game bird or pigeon and must retrieve the same at least 3/4 of the distance from the fall of the bird to the origin of flush in an acceptable Derby manner. The Vizsla must show no signs of being gunshy and must show reasonable response to the handler’s commands.

In the interest of safety, once the Vizsla has established point the handler may, if he so desires, hold his dog by the collar and have the gunner flush and shoot the bird.

All gunning is to be done by the official gunner, safety to people being of the utmost importance. If no birds are killed over the Vizsla taking the Test, the judge may at his/her discretion have a dead game bird or pigeon thrown out for a retrieve.

Vizslas taking this Test must score at least fifty percent (50%) in each category and have an overall score of at least eighty (80) points in the following categories:

1. APPLICATION AND DESIRE                   30 POINTS

2. POINT                                                        30 POINTS

3. RETRIEVE                                                  30 POINTS

4. RESPONSIVENESS                                   30 POINTS

This is a Test of hunting ability. Judges should evaluate dogs as hunting dogs. Please ask yourself, “Would I like to hunt over this dog?”. Mark your scoresheet accordingly.
