excerpt: Neupoint Farms
near Sunset, Louisiana was the venue for the first licensed pointing
breed hunt test to be held by the South Louisiana Vizsla Club; also
according to club president Adele Neupert, this was the first ever
pointing breed hunt test to be held in Louisiana.
What makes a National Gun Dog
Championship? The NGDC is a
vizsla-only walking trial with 1-hour braces. A "walking" trial differs
from horseback trials in that the handler is on foot. The braces are run
for an entire hour, and the dogs are required to retrieve. The NGDC
event is held annually and includes an additional stake, Open Puppy,
also on foot.
In the NGDC, the entrants must be 6 months of age
or older and have placed first, second, third or fourth in any Gun Dog
stake or hold a Master Hunter title. Open Puppy entrants must be at
least 6 months of age, and no more than 15 months. All vizslas running
in the National Gun Dog Championship and Open Puppy Stake must be free
of any disqualifying faults as stated in the vizsla standard recognized by the American Kennel
Club.
The 2006 event was held in
Mansfield, GA, about 50 miles east of Atlanta, and hosted by the
Vizsla Club of
Metro Atlanta, a new regional club.
The NGDC started Monday, February 20th, and wrapped up on the 22nd. The
weather was cool and drizzly with a few breaks of sunshine. The trial
ran smoothly and in a timely manner, thanks to the diligence of the
workers and the cooperation of the entrants.
The
VCMA would like to recognize these members for their contributions:
Trish & Wayne James, Trish Burdin, Karen Buerki, Julie Bender,
Joanne Hamilton, John & Kim Hays, Claudia Parks,
Barbara & Ben Zahn, and Tania Campbell. Thanks to Lynn and
Smitty, Dave & Clara Kayser, Theresa Miller and others who helped us
along the way. Thanks to all the exhibitors! We enjoyed watching your
dogs work, and we thank you for supporting this event! See you next
year! -- the VCMA
