1955

Romanze von Trutzh and Akil von Grombach are imported from Austria by Frank Houksy, Monterey, California. Romanze, Akil, and their son, Sandor (see 1970), were registered with the AKC as foundation stock. (Carpenter)

1956

First national field trial of Magyar Vizsla Club held in Fort Snelling, Minnesota. (Boggs, 31)

1960

On November 22, the Magyar Vizsla Club changes its name to Vizsla Club of America at the directive of the AKC. (Boggs, 296; letter to Charles Hunt from Alfred M. Dick, AKC, Nov. 15, 1960)

The breed is admitted to registry in the AKC Stud Book as the "Vizsla." (Boggs, 31) The Vizsla is the last sporting breed to enter the registry for 39 years. (Hayes)

1961

Congenital Hip Dysplasia and Its Ramifications by Dr. I. S. Osborne published. VCA approves resolution to X-ray breeding stock. (Boggs, 31)

Miklos Schloss Loosdorf is first Vizsla dog to win a show title in California. Owned by Harvey Warholm.(Boggs, 31)

Ch Paton’s Zsomi Selle becomes first Vizsla dog to place in a Group (third) at Central Ohio Kennel Club. (Boggs, 31-2)

Remy V Hunt wins first CDX at Staten Island Kennel Club (Open B, Score 192, first place); owner/handler Fernand L. Gerin. (Lovett)

Elwain Minu Siresht is first Vizsla TD; owned by Irene McElwain Pantzer of Franklin, New Hampshire. (Decade of Vizslas, 226; Lovett)

VCA holds first AKC field trial with points in New Sharon, Iowa; open to other breeds, 5 stakes, 44 entries ; Open Limited and Open Gun won by Ripp Barat. (Decade of the Vizslas; Boggs, 32)

1963

First VCA sanctioned "A" match held in Middletown, New York. (AKC Club files)

1964

Jan Bodri von Barrington CD, UD becomes first Vizsla to win obedience high in trial with 60 dogs competing. (Decade of the Vizslas)

1965

The first VCA National Specialty show is held in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, as part of the Chagrin Valley Kennel Club show. Winner is Gypsy’s Bronze Bomber bred by Mr. & Mrs. John Kenly and handled by Jack Funk. Ch Sandor von Debretsin and Ch Besa von Debretsin win first Best Brace in Show in Canada. (Carpenter)

1969

First VCA Field Futurity is held following the National Field Trial at Bong Recreational Area in Kansasville, Wisconsin. First place winner is Redstone’s Skol owned by Harold Wingerter of Muscatine, Iowa.(Decade of the Vizslas; Boggs, 32; Boggs 2nd, 38; Vizsla News, January, 1973, 13)

First VCA Show Futurity is held at National Specialty show in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Magyar’s Lady Patricia owned by John C. Blair is Best in Futurity; Oury’s alfi Staraza owned by Harvey and Carolyn Oury is Best of Opposite Sex in Futurity. (Decade of the Vizslas, Vizsla News January, 1973, 13)

First breed book in series to include the Vizsla published in US—How to Raise and Train a Vizsla by Ernest H. Hart. (Boggs, 32)

1970

DC Szekeres’ Kis Szereto becomes first Vizsla dual championship bitch. Owned by Carole Smith. (Boggs, 33)

First sanctioned water trial is held in Ohio. (Boggs, 33)

AM, CAN, MEX Ch Napkette Vadasz Dalos becomes first BIS Vizsla in the US at the Terry-All Kennel Club in Colorado. Owned by Mr. & Mrs. William Totton; bred by Phil Wright in Canada. (Boggs, 33; Carpenter)

Ch Debreceny Dezso is second Vizsla and first US-bred dog to gain a BIS at the Ventura Kennel Club in California. Owned by Gary Carpenter. (Coffman Versatile Vizsla, 123; Carpenter)

Ch Sandor von Debretsin, one of first Vizslas registered with the AKC as foundation stock, is top-producing sire for 1960-1970. (See 1955). (Carpenter)

1971 DC Behi’s Csinos Csiny CD becomes first Vizsla dual Champion with an obedience title. Owned by B C. Boggs. (Boggs, 33)

FC AFC Amber’s Windy Autumn is first Vizsla to win both the FC and AFC titles. First Vizsla AKC Amateur Field Champion. Owned by Phil Rosenberg of Illinois. (Boggs, 34)

On September 14, the VCA becomes a member club of the American Kennel Club as the national parent breed club, with 393 members from 40 states, thanks to work by Bud McGivern and May Carpenter. (Boggs, 34;Carpenter; AKC Club files)

1972 Dr. Bernard E. McGivern becomes first VCA delegate to the AKC. (AKC club files)
1973 The first comprehensive breed book is publishedThe Vizsla by B. C. Boggs.
1974 Decade of Vizslas 1960-1970 is published and copyrighted by the VCA. (Worth)
1975 First VCA combined specialty and national field trial held in Malcolm, NE (Carpenter).
1976 DC AFC Brook’s Willie Whompum is first VCA National Field Champion. Owned by Tony Lucas. (Boggs 2nd, 327)

First VCA Annual Obedience Trial is held with VCA 12th Annual Specialty Show and Field Trial at Medford, New Jersey. High in trial was Dorratz Ramriver Beethoven from the Novice A class. Breeder/owners Paul and Doris Ratzlaff of Oakland, New Jersey. (Lovett)

1977 First AKC VCA National Champtionship Stake and National Amateur Championship held at Fort Ord, California, October 21-23 (Carpenter).

Mehagian’s Peppy Paloma is first VCA National Amateur Field Champion. (Boggs 2nd, 328)

Ch Upwind’s Kis Trefas is first Vizsla to earn a perfect score in North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association testing. Owned by Trudy Lanman; bred by Lisa DeForest. (Lanman)

1978 DC Futaki Darocz owned by Bela Hadik and FC, AFC Jodi of Czuki Barat owned by Lewis and Sharon Simon becomes first Hall of Fame Vizsla. (Boggs 2nd, 329)
1980 Cariad’s Kutya kai Costa becomes first Vizsla Obedience Trial Champion and first Vizsla triple Champion and first triple Champion of any breed. Owned by Marianne and Robert Costa; handled by Bob Costa. He was also the first Vizsla to receive a Versatility Certificate. Ch Firebrand’s Constant Comment becomes first Vizsla BIS bitch in the US at the Newtown Kennel Club in Connecticut. Bred by Pam Pierce and owned by Betty Anderson. (Himmelfarb)

1981 VCA establishes Versatility Certificate Program with Julia Bonar as the first Versatility Program Chair. The VCGNY offers the first versatility tests in the US. (Worth)
1988 Three Vizslas are first to get MH title: DC AFC Semper Fi Chesty Puller owned/handled by Terry and Al Lucas; FC AFC Randy Bee’s Ramblin Man owned/handled by Jo Manning; AM MEX, CAN INT’L Ch Golden Empire Beauregard owned/handled by Cathy and Mike Parks. (Terry Lucas)
1990 UCD Deacon’s Starburst UD,TDI, CGC receives her AD from the USDAA’s first sanctioned event on May 6, 1990. One of the first 6 dogs, and the first Vizsla in the US to earn the Agility Dog title. Owned and handled by Marilyn Arwe. (Arwe)
1991 VCA establishes Rescue Committee . Rick Davis appointed first breed Rescue Committee Chair. (Hart, Shylen)

Ch Huntwyck's Woodland Cooper UD, TD, SH, MXJ, MX, VC was the first Vizsla to earn a perfect score of 200 in Obedience out of the Novice B class at the Rio Grande Obedience Dog Club Trials on May 7. Cooper was owned and trained by Melissa O. Thomas of El Paso, TX.

1995 VCA establishes Health Committee. Anne Denehy appointed first Health Committee Chair. (Denehy)

Ch Sandyacre’s Hopi Renaissance becomes the first Vizsla certified in search and rescue as a wilderness search dog. Owned by Jim Frazee. (Frazee)

1996 NAFC FC AFC Viesoo’s Red Fox Express is the first Vizsla to win the One Hour AKC Gun Dog Championship. Bred and handled by Jacqueline DeRoo; owned by Hans Koch. (DeRoo)

The first survey of VCA members’ dogs was conducted by the Health Committee. (Denehy)

1997 DC AFC Legacy’s DeChartay, CDX, MH becomes second Vizsla triple Champion and first Vizsla triple Champion bitch. Owned, trained and handled by Jack Sharkey of Alexandria, Virginia. (Sharkey)

1999 AM, MEX, INT’L Ch Equinox Sassafras CGC, TDI,MH,VC, NA NGC NAVHDA UT, AM & MEX CD, CAN FD, Hungarian CACT, CACIT, Res. CAC is the first American-bred Vizsla to win in a Hungarian International FCI field trial. Owned by Tom and Cindy Pescod. (Boggs 2nd, 44)

Citadella Krisztina CDX TDX is first Vizsla TDX at Palo Alto Tracking Association Test. Owned by Arline and Charles Lovett of Salinas, California; handled by Arline Lovett. (Lovett)

TC AFC Legacy's DeChartay UDX MH MX AXJ VC is the first Vizsla to earn a Master Agility Jumper (MXJ) title on April 3. Chartay was owned by Jack Sharkey of Alexandria, VA. (Sharkey)

2000 TC AFC Legacy's DeChartay UDX MH MX MXJ VC is the first Vizsla to earn the Master Agility Champion (MACH) title on June 10. Chartay was owned by Jack Sharkey of Alexandria, VA (Sharkey)

TC AFC MACH Legacy's DeChartay UDX MH is the first Vizsla and first dog of any breed to earn five AKC Championship titles in the organization’s 116-year existence. Owned by Jack Sharkey of Alexandria, Virginia. (AKC News release, July 22, 2000)

CH Barben’s A Star is Born CD, TD, AX, AXJ is the first Vizsla to earn a VCD1 when she completed her TD at the Tidewater Tracking Club trial in Yorktown, VA on February 4. Owned by Doris D. and Clyde R. Erskine. (Vizsla News, May/June, 2001, p. 32; Himmelfarb, Erskine)

CH Poquito's Chile Sandia Verde VCD2 AX AXJ is first Vizsla to earn a VCD2 when she completed her TD at the Tracking Club of El Paso in El Paso, TX, on February 11, 2001. Owned by Melissa O. Thomas and Maria F. Zucconi of Las Cruces, NM. (Vizsla News, May/June, 2001, p. 32; Thomas)

CH/OTCH Titan's Vintage Promise, UDX is the first female Vizsla to get a 200 and the first Vizsla to get three 200 scores in obedience in the Open B class in Charleston, SC on February 10, 2001; in Columbia, SC on May 13, 2001, and in Durham, NC on May 19, 2001. CH MACH Jasper The Tazmanian Devil SH MX MXJ is the first male Vizsla to earn an AKC MACH, Master Agility Championship at the Agility Club of San Diego's AKC trial in Bonita, CA on April 1, 2001. Owned and handled by Suxanne Glasgow of Jamul, CA. (Thomas)

CH MACH Jasper The Tazmanian Devil SH MX MXJ is the first Vizsla to earn a MACH2, in agility at the High Desert Agility Club in Los Angeles, CA on December 31, 2001. Owned and and handled by Suzanne Glasgow of Jamul, CA.

U-AgII Semper Fi Tripoli CD CGC TT JH AD OAJ AX V-NATCH is first Vizsla to earn a Veteran NATCH (National Agility Trial Championship) in NADAC agility on May 27, 2001 at the PAWZAZZ trial in Arnold, MD. Owned and handled by Madeline Meharg (Meharg).
