The Standard
Introduction
This book will begin with the breed standard for the
Scottish Terrier, but when it is finished will have covered
a great deal more information. The objective is to
help better understand the dog.
The official Breed Standard for the Scottish Terrier was
developed by the STCA in accordance with AKC guidelines.
The current version was submitted to the AKC and approved on
October 12, 1993.
The most frequent use of the standard is by
AKC judges when evaluating dogs in the conformation
ring. The standard is also used by Scottie breeders to
evaluate there own breeding program. We've included
links to two copies of the standard. One link is for the
Official
AKC version. If you're a show secretary and want to
impress the judge, include a printout of this version along
with the judge's record book. The second link is to
another copy of the same document within our own web
site. This STCA copy of the breed
standard uses the exact same wording but includes
additional hyperlinks to additional explanations that help to
understand the standard. The STCA also has a publication
titled A Study of the Scottish Terrier that is
available from the Corresponding
Secretary A portion of this publication can be viewed
online by clicking here.

Additional Topics
Eventually we would like to cover the complete Scottish
Terrier in this section. Future sections will include
Obedience, Agility, Earthdog and Field Trial events as well
as a more in-depth coverage of Conformation.
