Excerpt from the 2007 Rescue Survey and Year End Report to the STCA Board:

The STCA Rescue Survey results for 2007 were compiled and the total number of Scotties reportedly rescued by the STCA affiliated rescue groups were 590. Several groups did not get their reports in on time, so we suspect there were some additional dogs placed. We do not keep records on how many referrals from our rescue affiliates resulted in adoptions, but we do refer to those shelters who would rather try to place the dogs themselves. In addition, many of the groups do place predominant Scottie mixes, other breeds or other mixes, and those are not counted in these totals.

Many thanks to our dedicated group of volunteers for all the lives they saved in 2007!

More details from the annual Rescue Report for 2007:

The complete report to the Board included detailed information concerning activities of each Rescue program that is affiliated with the STCA (and listed on our Website). However, in the interest of brevity, the following summary information is offer for your review.

Age of Rescue Dogs
The majority of dogs fell into the 1-6 year old category, but there were still placements of dogs from puppy to over 12 years old, spread throughout the survey.

Online Applications
We received approximately 2400 online applications via our STCA website. Many of the individual STCA regional clubs and affiliates also have their own websites and their own applications, so combining them, we can see we still do have a lot of interest in our re-homed Scotties.

Donations
Donations received by the STCA RTF allowed us to help finance the medical expenses for many dogs this year. This fund is maintained to help defray extraordinary expenses incurred doing rescue work, for large scale endeavors such as Puppy Mill closings or disasters, and for dogs who are in areas with no Scottie rescue coverage to be taken on by a qualified rescue group.

Veterinary Expenses
Veterinary expenses continue to rise, so we will have to continue fundraising efforts. We appreciate the support of our members and other Scottie lovers!

Health Issues
The most common health issues in Scottie rescues reported this year were TCC and other types of cancer, Cushing's Disease, skin problems, heartworm and traumatic injuries.

Our 2008 Rescue Survey will be going out shortly, and the results will be posted here as soon as the data is available.
