Introduction

In accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws of the Scottish Terrier Club of America, the 2008 Nominating Committee, composed of Chair Steve Russell (IL), Barbara DeSaye (MI), Susan Finn (NJ), Darle Heck (AB) and alternates Gene Hains (NC) and Lynn Chapin (WA) submitted its proposed slate of candidates for Officers and Directors (2009 - 2010) to manage the Club, beginning in October 2008.  Recording Secretary, Julie Hill, sent this information to the membership in early June.  The information was posted on this Website as well.

Subsequent to the slate being announced, a second group of members submitted their petition to be considered as candidates for several of the open positions.  This petition was signed by the required number of STCA Members. The STCA Constitution and By-Laws says that the additional candidates must be presented to the entire Membership.

The STCA will therefore be holding an election this year.  Because there are multiple candidates for several of the Officer and Director positions we need each member to consider the opposing candidates and the vote for their choice.  The Recording Secretary has already sent out ballots to all current members, with instructions to return the ballots to an independent accounting firm who will count them.

Each of the candidates has submitted a statement of their individual qualifications.  Please review all of the material and the cast your vote for the most qualified candidate for each position.  The future of the STCA is in your hands.

Additional Nominations

Article IV, Section 4(b).  Additional nominations of eligible members may be made by written petition addressed to the Recording Secretary and received at her address on or before July 15th 2008, signed by 25 (twenty five) members and accompanied by the written acceptance of each additional nominee signifying his/her willingness to be a candidate.  No person shall be a candidate for more than one position and the additional nominations which are provided for herein may be made only from among those members who have not accepted a nomination of the Nominating Committee.

As indicated above, a list of additional candidates was submitted to the Recording Secretary for consideration.  The petition was signed by the required number of members, so these additional nominations have been presented to the entire membership for consideration.

Voting Procedures

On August 1, 2008, the STCA Recording Secretary sent a letter and a paper ballot to each STCA Member.  The letter includes specific instructions on how to cast your vote and where to send the ballot so that it can be counted.  All STCA members should review that letter for specific instructions.  The following points are offered for clarification:

  • Each STCA Member has received one ballot.
  • Each ballot lists those positions for which there are multiple candidates.
  • Positions for which there are no opposing candidates are not listed on the ballot.
  • Directors for the Class of 2010 represent an entirely new class, so there are a total of 7 candidates for the 4 vacant positions.
  • Directors for the Class of 2009 represent a group of returning Directors, plus 2 candidates for 1 vacant position.
  • Marked ballots should be placed in the return envelope and mailed to the Certified Public Accountant.  (Ballots should NOT be returned to anyone except the Certified Public Accountant.)
  • Ballots need to be mailed by September 3, 2008.
