Rescue groups often hear a variation of stories. Many prospective dog owners are just not convinced that owning an older (i.e, 6 mo.+) "pre-owned" dog is better than buying a puppy. But there are a number of reasons why adopting a pet from a rescue that carefully screens and evaluates its dogs can provide an even better alternative. Rescue organizations are committed to helping all dogs find safe and happy homes. For Questions or More Information Regarding AMTC Rescue, Contact: Kris Barlak AMTC Rescue Chairperson.

A few candid shots of some of the dogs that have come through American Manchester Terrier Club Rescue. They have wiggled their way into the heart(s) of that special someone willing to give them their 'Forever Home'. Some of these sweet dogs came from animal shelters, some from owner surrender and some were rescued from puppy mills. The most important thing is: they are loved, deeply cared about and all their needs taken care of and THAT is what AMTC Rescue is all about.
Who and What is AMTC Rescue?
Our rescue group is part of the American Manchester Terrier Club. We
take in purebred Manchester Terriers that are abandoned in shelters
or surrendered by their owners. We provide medical care such as
vaccinations, worming, heartworm testing and altering for each dog.
Each dog is placed in a loving foster home, evaluated and started on
training if needed. We then place them into new homes based on the
suitability of the home and the dog, not on a first come first
served basis. While many dogs that come into rescue may be
registered, we cannot guarantee that a rescue dog is 100% Manchester
in all cases. You will not receive registration papers with a rescue
dog as all registrations stay with the rescue organization. However,
if you are interested in performance events with a rescue, you can
apply to AKC for an ILP (Indefinite Listing Privilege) number.
Where Do Rescue Dogs Come From?
Rescue dogs come to us from all different situations. They may come
from shelters, humane societies, other rescue groups, puppy mills or
private owners. They may have been strays or well loved pets that
are placed due to family circumstances.
Is A Rescue Right For You?
Some rescue dogs do come with some sort of problem such as: they may
need extra TLC, extra work on housebreaking and general training.
Some advantages for you may be skipping the hyper puppy stage and
getting a more mature, quieter dog. Only you can determine if a
rescue is right for you and your family.
How Do I Adopt a Manchester Terrier?
Please continue to view our
Rescue pages, and if you think a
Rescue Manchester Terrier is right for you, feel free to download
and fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION (Word) or (PDF) and contact
the District Coordinator for your area. If you are interested in a
specific dog, please contact the Coordinator for the district in
which that dog is being fostered. We do require a vet reference, 2
personal references and a home check before placement.
How To Identify a Manchester Terrier in a Shelter, Etc.

may see in a shelter or in another rescue organization is a

AMTC Rescue Needs Volunteers
The American Manchester Terrier Club would like your help as a
volunteer to help with Manchester Terrier Rescue. If you are
interested in helping with identification, transportation, fostering
or any other aspect of rescuing our beloved Manchesters, please
contact Kris Barlak
AMTC Rescue Contact.
Attention: AMTC Rescue is in need of foster homes.
We currently have some Manchester Terriers in shelters who we cannot rescue because we do not have foster homes to place them in. These dogs are not in danger of being euthanized and AMTC Rescue is doing everything to help find these dogs a forever home, however, it highlights a problem that needs to be addressed.
The AMTC
Rescue is a national rescue group. For this reason, we need many more foster
homes than we currently have in order to continue helping our breed. Please keep
in mind that volunteering to foster does not mean that you will always have a
foster in your home or that you will be inundated with requests to foster.
If you absolutely cannot foster a dog for rescue, please consider
volunteering to transport. This would help us get dogs from areas where there
are no foster homes to an area where someone is willing to
foster the dog.
Thank you,
Kris Barlak
