Dear Potential IWS Home:
We appreciate your interest in providing a new home for an Irish Water Spaniel in need.
Attached is a package of information, including an application that will help us evaluate our dogs in light of your needs and home conditions. Please complete the application fully, providing any additional information you like on the back of the existing sheet or on another page. The more information you can provide, the better we can do in trying to find the right companion for you and your family.
If you have not had an Irish Water Spaniel in the past, be aware that they are an intelligent and active dog and not for those weak at heart. In the right home, they can be the best of pets and you will not want to be without at least one ever again! On the other hand, if bored or left for long periods without exercise and training, they will make up games to amuse themselves – and they may not be amusing to you!
Bear in mind that dogs that have come into Rescue/Re-Home have not had the best start in life. They may have developed bad habits due to negligence or other adverse circumstances. While many of them are wonderful dogs, they can come with some "baggage" of their past lives. They typically come, also, however, without the problems of puppyhood. Most are housebroken and generally obedient while walking on a leash. However, your investment of time in them will not be unrewarded. With the right home, they will be loving and beloved companions for many years to come.
We attempt to provide ongoing support to our Rescue and Re-homed dogs, as well. After placement, please feel free to contact us regularly with an update or any questions you might have. This serves to help you, the Irisher involved, and the Irish Water Spaniel Club of America in ensuring long and happy lives for our dogs and their families.
Please review the enclosed information and, if you want to be considered for an IWS placement, return the application form to your geographical chair. We do not always have dogs available, but, when we do, we want to consider your home as we select a placement.
