Description of the Irish Water Spaniel The Irish Water Spaniel is a large sized, liver colored dog with a long tail and long ears. The coat is curly, with a distinctive long topknot of curls falling over the face and a smooth tail. Height: 20-26" Weight: 45-80 lbs. Head: Large with a squarish muzzle; facial hair is short and smooth; long curly topknot Ears: Long, droopy, covered with curly hair Tail: "Rat-like"; smooth except at base Coat: Curly Color: Liver (rarely has small number of white hairs) Grooming: Regular brushing to avoid matting of coat Temperament: Happy, active and loyal. May be frightened in unfamiliar situations. Allergies: Can have SEVERE allergic reaction to sulfa and sulf-derived antibiotics. Very often FATAL. Do not administer.
