What is Re-homing and how does it differ from rescue?

Due to the dedication of most Irish Water Spaniel breeders re-homing is a far more common situation than rescue.  Rescue is literally that - the dogs has been stranded by his previous owners and has nowhere to go.   The Irish Water Spaniel community under the guidance of the Irish Water Spaniel Club of America Rescue steps in and does what is necessary to see that the dog is given all the love and attention it deserves while attempting to find it a permanent home.

With re-homing the previous owners have returned the dog back to the breeder or the breeder of a stranded dog was able to be located. There are numerous reasons this may have happened. Common situations are that an owner dies or becomes incapacitated, a new baby arrives in the family and the previous owners feel they must give the dog up, a move overseas or across country, or people who got a pet without thinking about the fifteen year plus commitment that pet ownership requires. In some cases, a pet is placed because of an abuse situation, and special care is taken before an adoption can take place.

Dogs listed on this site are all either microchipped or tattooed for permanent identification and have been (or will be) spayed or neutered before going to their new homes.
