GPCA Rescue Report, May 2007

We are all settling back into our routines now, after a great week in Phoenix at the 2007 GPCA National Specialty. It was great fun and wonderful seeing everyone!

With thanks to Dottie Sisco for a great suggestion, we will be coding rescuers listed on the website, with the type of assistance you would like to provide and be contacted for. The identifications are:

C - Take calls to gather information or direct to the correct contact person
FO - Foster only owner turn-ins
FSO - Foster from shelters and owner turn-ins
T - Pickup and Transport
C, FSO, T - All of the above

If you have not yet identified how you would like to be listed, please let Kerry or Kathy know.

GPCA Rescue has received a very generous $1000.00 donation from Garden State Great Pyrenees Club. Thank you Garden State! We would also like to thank all of our rescue supporters for your generous donations throughout the year.

We're looking for a Roving Reporter to share what's going on in Great Pyrenees rescue, writing articles for publication on the website and in the Bulletin. If you've got the "nose for news" and would like to be our Roving Reporter, please let us know.

Hosting clubs of future National Specialties will be encouraged to hold an event at that national, inviting the participation of rescue dogs. A rescue sub-committee (chaired by Christine Palmer-Persen) has been formed. The committee is charged with developing ideas, possibilities and procedures to include more events at Nationals, and when possible, Regionals, featuring rescued dogs. Some activities include, but are not limited to the following: ILP registrations at placement, continuing the Wall of Rescues (to be made into a book in the near future, to not only recognize these wonderful pets, but also to raise money to specifically fund activities at Nationals), spay/neuter shows, training workshops, parades, and whatever else people think of that can be reasonably implemented. For more information, please contact Christine (Pyrcreek@comcast.net).

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for all of your hard work and the great job you do for Great Pyrenees Rescue. Once again, it was a very busy year. Your efforts are greatly appreciated! We would like to remind rescuers that, not only is it imperative, it is our rescue policy, that prior to placing dogs or conducting home inspections in another state, please contact Pyr rescue volunteers in that state. Many rescue dogs are now listed on websites, making it easier for out of state placements to occur. However, rescuers in that state may have dogs in their own rescue program needing homes. They may also have knowledge regarding that potential home not being suitable for a Pyr. As we are all rescue volunteers with the same goal in mind, we ask that everyone please respect each other's boundaries.

If you have any questions or there is anything we can do to help you, please let us know. Kathy (pyrouette@earthlink.net) and Kerry (woodskk@eburg.com)
