GPCA Junior Recognition Program

GPCA Junior Recognition Program

2008 Winners

PURPOSE: To encourage young people with Great Pyrenees who are showing in Junior Showmanship (conformation) or performance competition (obedience, agility). The committee is to administer the Junior Handler of the Year Award, the Westminster Junior Showmanship Award, and the Performance Junior Awards.

1. Participants must either be GPCA Junior Members in good standing or have a family member (father or mother) who are members of GPCA in good standing.

2. Only wins earned while competing in the Junior Showmanship classes at AKC licensed or member shows while handling a Great Pyrenees will be counted toward the awarding of points.

3. Points will be awarded for wins during the calendar year (January 1 - December 31) and the recipients will be recognized at the Annual Banquet during the following year and published in The GPCA Bulletin and the AKC Junior Handling Newsletter.

4. Points will be computed on the number of Juniors defeated throughout the calendar year. A Junior will receive one (1) point for all other Junior competitors defeated. A Junior must have won a first, second, third, or fourth class placement in order to be considered as having defeated other Juniors in a class. No distinction will be made between the levels (Novice or Open) or age divisions (Junior, Intermediate, or Senior) of the classes. For example, if there are 15 in your class, you get 14 points. If there are 3 other classes with 10 each, and you go Best Junior, then you acquire an additional 30 points.

5. The annual point totals will be computed by the appointed GPCA Junior Recognition Chairman from the results as listed in the AKC show awards publication. Juniors are directly responsible for bringing any errors printed in this publication to the attention of the AKC and the GPCA prior to March 1st of the award year.

6. All Juniors must submit their names and proof of eligibility (see #1 above) by March 1st of the award year (the year following in which the wins were earned) to be considered for these awards.

7. The application form must be signed by the child's principal or teacher confirming the child has commendable academic achievements.
