Afghan Hound
Regional Clubs

Regional Clubs often provide public education display booths at  local all breed dog shows.  Persons interested in learning more about our breed can talk to club members who are breeders, owners and exhibitors to learn more about all facets of the Afghan Hound.

The Afghan Hound Club of America works with Regional Clubs, around the country, to maintain high standards in the care of the Afghan Hound and in the breeding and selling puppies.  Regional Clubs are a good place to meet other Afghan Hound owners in your area.  Membership in a Regional Afghan Hound Club offers many educational and social opportunities and will help you learn about your Afghan Hound throughout his lifetime.

A function of the local Afghan Hound Club is to sponsor its annual Specialty Show at which only Afghan Hounds are entered.  Fanciers from around the country meet in these regional areas to exhibit their Afghan Hounds.  At Specialty Shows, and at the all breed dog shows, the Afghan Hounds entered have the opportunity to win points towards their championship title.

Regional Clubs also sponsor informal Match Shows which are on a smaller scale than their Annual Specialty Show.  Prizes are awarded and although no championship points may be earned at matches, the ribbons and trophies won often inspire a casual exhibitor to try his hand at larger shows.

Members of Regional Clubs also participate in Obedience, Lure Field Coursing and Agility.  All Afghan Hound owners are welcome, and encouraged, to participate in Regional Club activities.

Please contact the Club nearest you for information.

Following is a listing of Afghan Hound Clubs by State.

The Afghan Hound Club of America urges members and breeders to be guided by the Standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club and to accept it as the only standard of excellence by which Afghan Hounds shall be judged.  Regional Afghan Hound Clubs throughout the country are proud to celebrate the Afghan Hound Standard which has remained unchanged since its adoption September 14, 1948.
