Afghan Hound Club of Greater
Phoenix
![]() One of the AHCGP education efforts became a fun night for all participants. The Afghan Hounds met with the Ballet dancers of the Herberger Theatre, who would be handling the Afghan Hounds, in preparation for the Herberger Benefit Night production. This $300/plate dinner became an enormous educational event with over 700 guests who quickly decided they wanted to learn more about the glamour and grace of our breed! |
![]() ![]() An Educational booth was set up by the Club at the local Kennel Club Show. Several Afghan Hounds were in attendance and the general public was allowed hands on opportunities. The booth showcased the many talents of the breed including: conformation, Obedience and Lure Coursing. The Club also included examples of Lure Coursing Equipment and handed out pamphlets on the sport. Their efforts were well rewarded. The AHCGP was awarded second place in the Information Booth Category and a nice check was awarded to President, Eileen Laudermilch.

Meetings are
held the 4th Wednesday of the month in September and October and January
thru May. Meetings are held at members homes so there is at least
one genuine Afghan Hound present. Members are a mix of novice, show
veterans, pet and rescue owners who love the breed.
Members are involved in Agility, Lure Coursing, Showing and Obedience as well as 4 wheeling their dogs. The club also does breed information and referral and publishes a newsletter.
![]() The Southern Arizona Afghan Hound Association has several breed education events throughout the year. At the local All Breed Kennel Club Show, an education booth is set up and Afghan Hound Club literature on the breed, exhibiting and breeding a dog is handed out. National and statewide breed rescue lists, dog show informationand Lure Coursing information is also given to the public. This club also sponsored a Microchip Clinic and sends out information on what people should look for if they are searching for an Afghan Hound puppy.
