So, you think youd like a Bullmastiff. The "Gamekeepers Night Dog" has evolved from its utilitarian origins in Great Britain into a loyal and faithful companion. Todays Bullmastiff thrives on sharing all aspects of his familys life, and his heritage as a working dog gives him a wonderful temperament for all of us to enjoy. That imposing exterior hides a sensitive soul. But, like anything else worth having, the Bullmastiff will require some compromises. The very first thing to consider is your living space. A Bullmastiff does not do well as a kennel or outside dog so, if you choose to maintain your home as a decorators showplace, perhaps a Bullmastiff is not for you. Sloppy water bowls and drool-marked clothing are a fact of life with this breed, and a happy, hearty, shake of the head can leave tendrils of saliva hanging on your walls. If you cant deal with that, stop reading here. Can you cope with the affectionate nature of a lap-dog trapped in an over-sized body? Are you prepared to provide food and veterinary care throughout the life of your pet? Can you afford to do so? Do you have enough room for such a big dog? Does everyone in the household want a Bullmastiff, or is your mate leaning toward a Pomeranian? Are you diligent enough to provide structure and discipline for a large, strong-willed dog with a stubborn streak that would make a mule proud? And, most importantly, do you have the time and energy to provide all of the love and attention these guys need? If you think theres nothing more appealing than a big sloppy Bullmastiff kiss, please read on. Sharing your life with a Bullmastiff is one of the most wonderful and rewarding things you can do the only thing better is sharing your life with two, or three, or
