Wearing bright green jackets, the USDA Animal & Plant Health Inspection Services' (APHIS) Beagle Brigade serves as a special unit of passively trained detection dogs.  Leashed and under constant supervision of their handlers, they sniff out prohibited fruits, which might carry fruit flies, and meat, which might carry livestock diseases, in the baggage of passengers arriving from overseas.  There are  Beagle Brigade members at several major border crossing in the US, as well as many International airports which are Ports of Entry into the United States.  For more information about how the Beagle Brigade works, how the dogs are trained and acquired, go to http://www.aphis.usda.gov:80/oa/pubs/beagle.html .
