This puppy is what is termed "Tan
and White", being a few shades off of a true Red and White. Puppies will quite
often get darker as they age, however. This is not a Lemon and White which is lighter. This puppy appears to have a black nose, although some will have more of a liver nose, indicating a slightly different mode of inheritance. |
| This dog represents a slightly darker form of Red than the average, but is not so dark to be called Mahogany which is more liver in coloration. |

An example of what most people would agree is a "true lemon and white" beagle, although the white areas appear more white than cream. | |
| And what color would you call the dog to the right? It has the lighter tan color on the head and tail base of the Tan and White but the White areas are more cream-colored. To some, this is the indicator of a True Lemon and White. Note the black nose. Also a very extreme case of the Piebald gene, and actually might be termed a Lemon Pied. |  |
