AKC Dual Champions
The Dual Championship is a wonderful accomplishment in any breed, requiring a dog to not only be good looking but sound enough and possessing the instincts, the biddability, the intelligence and the stamina to run a rabbit or hare with a pack or bracemate and to honor the other members of the pack or their bracemate. There were many dual champions in the 1940s, but until recently there had not been a dual champion in over 50 years. The dog to break this dry spell was Dual Ch. Pebble Ridge Shadrack, owned by Herman and Carol Pyrkosz, bred by Underhill.
On the way to his Dual, he also won the 13 inch male class at the Mid-America Brace Gundog All-Age Runoff in 1999 with a spectacular high brace run at SilverCreek Beagle club, and placed NBQ at the 1999 AKC National SPO Championship Trial, also making the Winners Pack at the 1999 and 2000 AKC National. The National SPO is a great yearly event where field Champions and beagles who have placed in akc licensed trials may compete. hounds from all federations meet to compete there. competing in the winners pack there with the best in the country. He was also the Grand Final Winner at the Mid-America Brace Gundog Federation All-Age Run off. First in Show, Third in Field.
Much thanks goes to Hal Davis of Strongbow Beagles for helping me fill in, and in many cases totally providing the pedigrees for these dogs as well as AKC numbers, size and birthdates. Also thanks to Angela Henderson of Nivek Kennel in Great Britain for explaining the use of birthyears as part of the registered name of British Hounds and to also supplying pedigrees and extensions for many of the old dogs listed here..
