After all the planning, work, stress and fun of our annual specialty show was over, the Atlanta gang was ready for a relaxing party for our May meeting, and hosts Barry and Sharron Hunt delivered that party in fine style. The weather was beautiful, the food delicious, and the Scotties were in fine voice to accompany the bagpiper that led our impromptu parade through the neighborhood. Friendly neighbors watched from the sidelines, waving, smiling, and at times shouting encouragement to the stragglers as the parade o'Scots passed by. Thank you Barry and Sharron for opening your lovely home to us for this fun event.

The June meeting was held at Nancy Michael's home in Duluth. We were very honored to have special guest Gail Gaines (Neidfyre) in attendance to speak to the group about Scottie health problems. Gail gave an excellent talk about CA, and Fergus, our CA demo dog, did an outstanding job of illustrating Gail's talk. Many thanks go to member Anita Bergen for allowing Fergus to participate in the talk, and to Gail for being with us.

Committee members are busy making plans for our "Fala Day" event. Held annually at the Little White House in Warm Springs, Georgia, this event has grown from a small group that wanted to have a nice afternoon at the park to celebrate Fala, to an event that attracts people from all over the country and the world. Held each year on the first Saturday in November, people gather at the park for stories, instructional talk, games, the ever-popular costume contest, the rescue parade, and finally, the reading of the "Rainbow Bridge" poem and the poignant reading of the list of fallen Scots. All these events, plus a few new ones, and maybe even a surprise or two, will be waiting for attendees this year. If you'd like further information, please check our website at www.stcgatlanta.com. Information will be added as it becomes available. Katie Nixon, "Fala Day" chairperson, dahlmkr@aol.com, or Nancy Michael, co-chair, homemako@aol.com, will also be happy to answer your questions.

New officers and board members for 2008-2009 are president Bill Nixon, vice president Zerelda Butler, secretary Nancy Michael, treasurer Barry Hunt, and board members Mary Lovings, Herschal Hill, Susan Friend, Anita Bergen and Bea Vore. We are looking forward to a year of Scottie fun!

The STCGBA has been slowly making changes over the last couple of months. Most notably, we are ramping up our rescue efforts. So far in 2008, our club has rescued three Scotties in need. While we realize that this is a day's work for other clubs, for us, it's a vast increase. The Scotties we placed probably don't care how many we rescued, just as long as we rescued them! To Harry, Arlo, and Berry - welcome home from all of us.

Our spring specialty in conjunction with the Columbia Terrier Association of Maryland was held on April 18, 2008. For this correspondent, (also the show chair) it was good despite some last minute scrambling. Many thanks to Mrs. Pat Hastings for stepping in and judging our Scotties in breed so expertly, and to Mrs. Susan Finn for giving our youngsters entered in sweepstakes a thoroughly positive show experience. Please see the STCA website for the winners' names and placements. Thank you to all of the exhibitors, club members, and spectators who made the day complete.

For us, September equals the "Scottie Scamper," a fun day in the park for humans and their Scotties. This year, it's on Sunday, September 21st. In addition to the usual fun, games, and information exchange, the club will have its "ways and means table" laden with Scottie collectibles for sale in support of dub activities. We would love to have you join us for a really exciting day. Contact this author for details and directions.

We look forward to seeing you at the Howard County Fairgrounds on October 11, 2008, for our fall specialty in conjunction with the Catonsville KC. Our judges are Ms. Susan Parsons for breed and Ms. Norma Ryan for sweeps. Mark your calendars and join us, won't you?

Lastly, 2008 is an election year for the STCGBA. Our November meeting will be taken up with this task. A few of our officers and board members have agreed to stay on in their current positions, a few are retiring from service (but not membership), and a few are looking to serve in new ways. Change is good, no? Look for our new slate of officers and board members right here in the first edition of "Scottie Talk" in 2009.

In April, Roger Clarkson judged our STCC spring puppy match. He chose Gibson's Erroll Flynn, owned by Liz Lufrano, as Best Junior and Best in Match. Hi-Acre's Wind In The Willows, owned by Ted and Hilda Miyamura, was Best Senior. It was a wonderful day spent in the park with all our great Scotties.

On June 22, 2008, we marked a club milestone, as we held our STCC 75th "Diamond Jubilee" specialty show in conjunction with Great Western Terrier Association group shows in Long Beach, CA.

Sweepstakes was judged by Pieter de Beer (Bardriaan). From an entry of 19 promising youngsters, his BIS was a 12-18 month bitch: Glenkinch Let's Talk About Me, owned by Lisa and Tom Kincheloe and Danica Burge. BOS in sweeps was a 12-18 month dog: XTC Rumor Has It, owned by Deborah Rasmussen and Nancy Xander.

Mr. Dan Ericsson (Raglan) judged the classes with an entry of 48 Scotties. His impressive lineup included his winners: BOB to CH. Roundtown Mercedes of Maryscot, owner Amelia Musser, WD/BOS to Cadscott Maximillon, owners Charlie & Becky Utts, WB/BOW to Dynasty's Midnight Madness, owners Jerson Valle and Victor Malzonie, Scott Fuller and J. Frank Baylis.

The STCC awarded a $200.00 cash prize to both first place in BBE dog and bitch. All other first placements in regular classes were awarded $100.00. Etched glass 75th commemorative trophies were lovely. Morning hospitality and luncheon was extremely well received and appreciated by our guests and exhibitors.

A nice awards dinner was held on Friday night with table centerpieces and favors in keeping with the theme of our "Diamond Jubilee." Our specialty show was dedicated to thirty-three members attaining twenty years (or more) of service to the club. These members were presented with 75th specialty gold commemorative pins. Twenty-seven championship medallions were awarded, and two performance titles were also recognized.

Many thanks go out to Jeanie Jennings, show chair, and all her fine specialty show committees. Last but not least, a heartfelt thank-you to all the exhibitors, guests, and Scottie lovers that participated during the weekend activities; we hope to see you again next year.

New STCC officers and board for 2008-2009 are as follows: president Jeanie Jennings, VP Jacki Forkel, treasurer Sherry Swickard, corresponding secretary Adrian Sanchez, recording secretary Patricia Burg, and directors Hilda Miyamura and Debra Dillon.

Summer has inched its way in this year, and for those of us currently showing our dogs, we have been thankful for the cool weather in the upper Midwest. As I've explained to fellow exhibitors, there's a reason we don't do many outdoor shows here - the heat and humidity can be brutal to both dog and handler.

On June 14, 2008, our club hosted its 78th annual specialty, in conjunction with the Great Lakes All Terrier Association show, at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake, Illinois. This year's theme was "A Dog's Day Summer" and prizes were items appropriate for summer activities with our dogs. In sweepstakes, judge Janet Bartholomew selected Anstamm Party Line, owned by Jan Craig, as BIS and Fairway Brodie Laird, owned by John and Ingrid Pietsch, as BOS. In the regular classes, Judge Tom Natalini awarded CH Cedar Linne Broadway Babe, owned by Susan Kenney and Phyllis Kuhn as BOB, Ravenscraig Two Bears, owned by Al and Jeanie Jennings, as WD, BOW, and BOS, and Pjscot Thistlepark Joyful Moment, owned by Judy Digirolamo, as WB. Afterwards, we celebrated the completion of yet another successful specialty with a luncheon in the Swine Barn, dutifully cleaned out by club members. Thanks to all who came, as always it is our pleasure to host our annual specialty and look forward to hopefully seeing you next year, for which plans have already started to formulate.

Our rescue team fortunately hasn't reported any upswing in dogs due to the flooding that has plagued the central Midwest, but they have noted a growing number of dogs being turned in because of economic factors, and fear that more may come. This team, primarily Sue Severtsen and Caryl Alten, have done a tremendous job over the past years to make sure that any Scottie that comes their way finds a new permanent home.

And in closing, come August, we will once again be holding our annual meeting and electing a new board of directors and officers for the coming year, as well as setting out our meeting schedule with events and speakers. The annual meeting will be held at Whitlock Park in Downers Grove, Illinois from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., on Sunday the 17th.

GDSTS had their annual specialty for 2008 on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at Market Hall in Dallas, TX. It was a new time and date for our club, and we thank all the exhibitors that came to Texas. Marianne Melucci was our sweepstake judge, and Fred Ferris judged our regular classes.

Best in Sweeps was Keipats Dancing In The Dark, owned by Pat Baker, and BOS was Hillview Special Guy, owned by Janet Bartholomew. BOB in regular classes was CH MiScotts-Karascots Agatha Rules, owned by James Shultz, Shirley Karas and Rick Fowler, BOS was CH Springbok's A Tad Bit Unbelievable, owned by Jack and Donna Winslow, BOW/ WD was Sandiamond Joker's Wild, owned by Rick Fowler, Debbie Trusty and Marilyn Parson, and WB was Springbok's Unchained Melody.

We had our annual awards banquet on Saturday, July 5, 2008, and had a great time and always a fun live auction.

Thanks to our judges and everyone that made this year's specialty another success.

What a busy summer this has turned out to be in 2008. There is a lot going on here in Ohio and life seems to be even busier. The club looks forward to all the activities and plans as being well-deserved accomplishments!

STCGD members were hard at work for two days in June at the "Cincinnati Dog Fest." The club rented a booth and manned themselves with information, pamphlets and very friendly Scotties! The STCGD traditional "Scottie For All Seasons" handmade quilt, cross-stitched by club members, was displayed with honor, and many compliments were received and tickets sold. A special group of ladies in Eaton, OH, hand-quilted, placing the finishing touches on this item for the "National Rotating 2009." Please go to www.stcgd.com to see this beautiful quilt with raffle tickets. A picnic meeting was enjoyed the last day of "Dog Fest" with members and all the Scotties attending, friendly and, oh well, you know our terriers!

Members will meet at the home of Jeff and Valerie Underwood for a workday on Sunday, July 20, 2008. The ways and means is in full gear for the upcoming "National Rotating 2009." There will be painting projects that need to be accomplished while the weather is nice, with the rest to take place over the winter months. In addition to the handmade "Scottie For All Seasons" quilt, the club, hopes to have the cookbook ready to take to Montgomery KC.

Hotel headquarters for rotating weekend will be the Holiday Inn Airport (Northwest), Englewood, OH, which is conveniently located off 1-70, with restaurants and shopping, at www.holidayinn.com/ claj tonap. This is a new hotel for STCGD, having had the Airport Hotel for many years present and past. This landmark will be torn down, making room for progress..? A good thing with Holiday Inn: there is much more to see and do at this intersection, and its three exits away from the Dayton Expo Center at www.daytonexpo.com.

In August, the club continues its tradition holding their meeting at the Valley Vineyard Winery in Morrow, OH. At this time, the new slate of officers and board will be installed and new members will be recognized, filling the room with good food and fellowship. The 2007 recipient of the "Good Sportsmanship Award" will honor this year's special member.

Welcome new club members Frank and Susan Moloney. Until next time, take care!

It's July in Colorado, and the days are glorious. The sky is cobalt blue, the mountains tower above us in snowcapped purple majesty, and the fields are green and lush. It is truly the best time of the year, especially because we are busy preparing for our August specialty. By the time you read this, the "Rockin' in the Rockies, A Fifties Extravaganza" show will be a fond memory.

Our recent activities have revolved primarily around fundraising for the show. Members have submitted creativeoand fun ideas, which are perking along beautifully. The club has obtained seats to Colorado Rockies baseball games, and members are having a lot of fun attending those. Plus, we benefit the club in the process. What a deal!

In June, we held a garage sale at the home of Sylvia Sydow. It was a beautiful day, we had a good time socializing, and we got rid of our junk, while raising almost $200 for the club.

In August, the club will sell cartons of fresh peaches grown on Colorado's western slope. These peaches are renowned for their sweet flavor and juiciness. Some members are planning to purchase numerous cartons and sell them in their neighborhoods. We are excited about the financial possibilities here, as well as the enjoyment factor.

In addition to our show-related activities, our members are experiencing a bout of extreme fertility on the Scottie front. Betty Cooper has two litters on the ground - four bitches and three dogs; Laura Childs and Brad Martisius are the proud parents of one bitch; and Charlene and Bob Gann welcomed two litters of seven simultaneously - one consisting of five bitches and two dogs, and the other, five dogs and two bitches- surely a record! Charlene aptly names her astonishing event "A Sonnet of Scotties," (from the Webster's sonnet: a poem of fourteen lines).

In mid-July, the club will participate in a dig and picnic at the Gann home in beautiful Rist Canyon. There, our canine companions will try their hand at earth dog events, and we eagerly anticipate this gathering of Scotties and friends.

May 2008 was a very busy month for HASTC. Several members participated in the AKC "Educational Experience" hosted by the Heart of America KC on May 10 in Kansas City, MO. This experience was designed to educate the public and to provide helpful information to clubs and exhibitors on all aspects of the sport of dogs and responsible dog ownership. Club members Jeff Jones and Ron Frigault provided a grooming demonstration, Amy Cada and Patsy Higgens helped at the puppy match, and Earle and Renetta Teegarden were there to answer questions and provide information on Scottish Terriers.

May 16th was the date of our annual specialty show in Gardner, Kansas, in conjunction with the Sunflower KC of Olathe, Kansas. Lois Bolding judged the sweepstakes and Paul DeBene judged the regular classes. BIS was awarded to Hillview Special Guy, owned by Janet Bartholomew and BOS in sweeps was awarded to Brandybae Bolero, owned by Tom W. Langdon. In the regular classes, BOB was awarded to Ch. McScots - Karascots Agatha Rules, owned by James Shultz, Shirley Karas and Rick Fowler. BOS was awarded to Ch. Sodak Vanguard's Laird, owned by Peg James and Susan James- Jacobsen. WD was awarded to Brandybae Braveheart, owned by Carla LaCoe and Delbert Price, and WB/BOW was awarded to Glendarra's Stardust Odyssey, owned by Amy Cada and Rose Shacklett.

Following the specialty show, club members and exhibitors attended the luncheon at Austin's Bar and Grill. The club welcomed several new members: Christine O'Brien, V. Elaine Wallace, and Leita Thorns. One of the highlights of the specialty luncheon is to recognize club members with new champions in the past year. A plaque is awarded for someone's first champion, and there are additional spaces on the plaque to put engraved bars with the dog's name and year it finished its championship, for future champions.

Club members who finished their first dog and receiving plaques were Patsy Higgens, and Jim and Robin Leppert. Club members receiving engraved bars for existing plaques included: Janet Bartholomew (2), Pat Baker (2), Sonya Neve (1), and Scott and Susan Jacobsen (2).

Smokin' summer and show season greetings from the members of the Louisville Club! We are so proud of our most talented STCGL members, and thrilled that they can share their gifts with other regional clubs.

Our own Donna Winslow writes "I was at last able to fulfill my commitment to the STC Greater Dayton in March by judging their sweepstakes classes of 20 puppies. I felt the strength of the breed is definitely in the bitches and was pleased in how difficult a task I had in deciding which puppy would get that final nod. So many members of the STC of Greater Louisville were in attendance with their puppies, and I thank each and every one for the honor of judging their next generation. They were all a delight."

Rose and Jack Shacklett presented a "History of the Scottish Terrier" to the Louisville Scottish Society, and took two examples of the breed from their own kennel. The folks loved the Scotties and enjoyed feeding them treats, provided by the proud owners.

Marcia Dawson, DVM, is actively involved in working with the Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine and the National Institutes of Health to help all of our Scotties fight bladder cancer (TCC). They are looking for blood samples from Scotties over 9 years old without TCC. Please do all you can to help the study eradicate this disease from our breed, and contact Dana Mosher of the NIH, mosherd@mail.nih.gov, to request a blood sample kit. For the San Francisco Bay STC, Marcia will give a discussion on Scottie health, genetic issues and whelping.

In April, Regina Hess judged STC Dayton's AKC-sanctioned B puppy match on the Friday evening prior to the specialty show. The club reports she performed an excellent job. She has also been appointed on the board of directors for the Michigan club.

Miss Gail Gaines gave an informative health presentation on Cerebellar Abiotrophy (CA) to members of the STC of Atlanta club on June 21. In addition, she will judge the STCGL's AKC-sanctioned B match on the Friday night, in conjunction with the Louisville specialty show and weekend on August 22 and 23, 2008.

Dan Stickler of Kentucky and Ginger McAfee of Tennessee continue to successfully rescue many dear Scottie souls from shelters and puppy mills. God bless them, and all the loving and generous homes they find, for giving these dear dogs a better chance at a quality life.

Finally, the winter in New England is over, the warm weather returned after a long cold and snowy season! The STCNE specialty brought out members, friends and exuberant Scottish Terriers for a celebration. Although warm and sunny, plenty of tenting was available for the dogs, and the hospitality tent provided shade and tables for our fabulous New England feast. Too warm for clam chowder, but the lobster rolls and other delicious sides were gobbled up with great enjoyment by all attending.

The centerpiece for this event was the Scottish Terrier. In the morning, Anne Frankewich judged our sweepstakes classes and awarded BIS to Anstamm Maryscot No Speed Limit, owned- by Mary O'Neal & Anstamm kennels, with her BOS winner being Anstamm Party Line, owned by Jan Craig and Anstamm kennels. The rescue parade followed our luncheon.

For the first time, STCNE held classes for junior showmanship, with Barbara Keenan presenting Best junior to Emily Riley Okun, handling her Starview Gold Dust Woman. Emily has worked hard to refine not only her handling, but also her care and grooming of her own dogs. Her love of her dogs and dedication to the showing of Scottish Terriers has been noted by all members of the STCNE, and we are duly proud of her efforts.

Ms. Barbara W. Keenan, terrier expert and breeder, judged our regular classes. Ms. Keenan selected as specialty BOB CH Blueberry's Surely You jest, owned by John and Daphne Eggert. Sugarbush She's A Sinner, owned by Phyllis Kuhn and Susan Kenney, was selected as WB, BOW, as well as BOS. WD went to Sugarbush Pecan Sandie, owned (and handled for the first time) by Ken Hekman.

Upcoming events include our annual earth dog trial in Connecticut on Sunday, October 12th. Come work the event or just watch our Scotties "do their work." Plans are being made for our annual meeting, elections, awards, and auction of a wide variety of Scottish Terrier memorabilia. Once again, the festivities will be held at the historic Publick House in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Save the afternoon of November 16th and join us for an enjoyable afternoon celebrating our breed. This year, we are raffling a handmade quilt, complete with multiple pillows and croquet throw. The quilt is black Scotties on a cranberry, tan and black background with accents of green, blue and cream. You will find photos and downloadable raffle books at http://www.stcne.org/CY08Web/QuiltRaffle.htm.

Rotating '08 and STCGNY's 31st specialty notes are almost filed away. It was quite a weekend... quite a "Revolutionary Rotating" during May 2-4! We were fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in a variety of events, everything from planning, exhibiting, attending seminars, catching up on HTF activities, meetings, and above all else, sharing our passion for our beloved Scotties!

Thank you to everyone who traveled from near and far. Club president Arlene Brice, show chair Paula Davidson, and all STCGNY members did a wonderful job pulling it all together. Marion Krupp's "Revolutionary Rotating" trademark is on many coffee mugs around the country. Erica Cerny's artful eye set up trophies for Saturday and Sunday. Dr. Claudia Orlandi's "The ABC's of Breeding & Anatomy" and judge Jerry Roszman's seminars were nicely attended. This year's rotating was held in conjunction with the Bucks County KC, Erwinna, PA, on May 3. Even during a damp Saturday morning, the trophies sparkled and judging began with sweepstakes judged by Helen Krisko. BIS was awarded to Deblin's Silly Talk, owned by Deborah Brookes, B.Franklin, B.Cornwall. Regular class Judge Edd E. Bivin awarded BOB to: CH Deblin's Just Talk'N, owned by Deborah Brookes and Joel Goldberg; BOS: CH McVan's Fire Starter, owned by Dr. Vandra Huber and Michael Krolewski; and BOW: Pjscot Thistlepark Joyful Moment, owned by Judy DiGirolamo.

We were delighted to see the sun shining down on us on Sunday at our 31st specialty, this year held in conjunction with Trenton KC in West Windsor, NJ. Dr. Barbara Lounsbury started the day judging sweepstakes. She chose BIS: XTC Starlight Starbright, owned by Nancy Xander; and BOS in sweepstakes: Deblin's Silly Talk, owned by Deborah Brookes, B.Franklin, and B.Cornwall. Regular class Judge Robert J. Moore awarded BOB to CH McVan's Fire Starter, owned by Dr. Vandra Huber and Michael Krolewski; WD: Deblin's Silly Talk, owned by Deborah Brookes, B.Franklin, and B.Cornwall; WB: Sugarbush She's A Sinner, owned by Phyllis Kuhn and Susan Kenney; and BOS: CH Blueberry's Surely You Jest owned by Daphne and John Eggert.

Many members attended "MCKC's All Terrier Match" on June 29th, followed by a brief meeting. Our summer send-off festivities included our AKC-sanctioned "B" match show on Sept. 21st at Allstar kennels, judged by Helen Prince. Now, we're looking forward to the changing of the season and Montgomery!

Judge Kenneth M. McDermott awarded BOW/BOB to Rose's That's My Babe, owned by Jean Rose, and BOS to CH Ashmoor David Balfour, owned by Robert V. Moore III.

Plans are underway for our first (hope-to-be annual) Scottie picnic on Saturday, September 13, 2008, at Twin Lakes Park in Greensburg, PA. An agility fun course will be available for all the Scots to try out. Our club is in the process of planning all the games and activities for our lovable Scotties. We will be sending out invitations to all our sister clubs' corresponding secretaries in August. We are looking forward to setting aside this day annually to celebrate our wonderful Scots!

A grooming seminar is planned for October. Along with assisting our many new members that plan to enter in conformation next year, we hope to attract several commercial dog groomers in the area to help educate them on the fine points of keeping pet Scotties looking spiffy.

In order to better accommodate our growing membership geographically, we are in the process of redefining the "Greater Bay Area" in our constitution. This will allow us to hold meetings in more locations, so that the same members don't always travel the farthest. At the same time, with gasoline over $4 a gallon and snail mail" getting more expensive, we are examining ways to tele-conference and changing standing rules to allow more e-mail notices. The SFBSTC board just had its first meeting by telephone.

We were greatly honored by a visit from STCA member Dr. Marcia Dawson, DVM, at the July luncheon-meeting. Members and guests enjoyed an informative talk and discussion of the Scottie health issues suggested by the member survey conducted earlier this year.

The well attended and thoroughly enjoyed fun match of 2007, at Vasona Park in Los Gatos, was repeated this August. The "AKC Canine Good Citizen" test was demonstrated, and it is expected that more Scotties will be training and qualifying for it! Our "B" match was added this year, with results in the next Bagpiper, and the rescue parade was, as always, heartwarming and fun! The resident ducks were mystified by the furry, four-legged creatures running about!

As requested by many members in the survey, a hands-on grooming seminar with Sally George was held in September at the Serrano's Sacramento home. We always look forward to meeting at Mike and Candi's - the'lunch and breakfast goodies are so tasty! And, the Scots went home ready for our October specialty.

We are looking forward to a visit in October from founding member, honorary member and cherished friend, Barbara DeSaye. She is conducting the SFBSTC raffle for the needlepoint checkerboard with pewter Scotties pieces, and the original hand-made quilt by member Susan Sweeney, and she will be judging our specialty sweepstakes.

At our general meeting held on March 6, 2008, the nominating committee presented the following as the 2008/2009 slate of officers: president Paul DeBene, vice president Joe Whitney, treasurer Gerry Leonard, recording secretary Lynne Whitney, corresponding secretary Laurie Slater with board members Lois Bolding, Betty Lavers, Sue McKnight and Jene Anderson. Congratulations to the 2008/2009 officers and board members.

On Saturday, June 14th, we gave our annual awards. Once again, we had a great turnout, with a lot of new members in attendance. During the ordering of dinner, we survived a power outage that lasted for about 45 minutes, which allowed for more visiting and socializing, plus more "drink" orders as the room got a bit warm.

We recognized 20 new champions for 2007: Jene Anderson and Sonia Hollnagle-1, Lois Bolding and Paul DeBene-2, Sheila Faith-Barry-2, Daphne and John Eggert-2, Suzanne Graham-3, Charla Hill-10, Elizabeth Leng-1, and 1 companion dog-Jackie Salomon and Sheila Faith-Barry.

After dinner and dessert, we had an auction with donated Scottie and dog related items from our generous members. Joe Whitney did an excellent job as the auctioneer; we raised over $1,000.00 for our Scottie rescue fund. There was a lot of fun and laughs by all as the bidding got very competitive.

On Saturday, July 26, 2008, we will be holding a grooming seminar with special guest instructor, Cindy Cooke of Anstamm kennels. Both conformation and pet grooming will be offered. We hope for a wonderful turnout.

Plans are still under way for our specialty show on Saturday, November 8, 2008, held in conjunction with the all breed Hernando KC in Brooksville, FL. Our sweepstakes judge is Krissy Shafer Simmons (Chyscott) and our regular judge is Barbara Casey (Casi). We look forward to another successful specialty show and hope that you will plan to attend the 4-day cluster of shows. Many thanks, Betty Lavers, for taking on the task of show chairperson.

New club members John and Kris Everett have been working very hard constructing our new website which is www.STCTB.org (please note correction from our report in the 2008 #2 issue). We are very appreciative for all the time and effort that they have done in this monumental project. So, please take a moment to check out our new interactive website.

We are happy to report that club members Paul DeBene, Gerry Leonard and Paul Turner have helped place four rescue Scotties in new homes in recent months, including 2 flown in from St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Some of our newest members have generously volunteered to serve as foster homes for these needy Scots.

In May, we had our annual rescue picnic and meeting at the home of Frank and Jeanne Lishia in Silver Spring, MD. We had a very nice turnout and met up with old friends and some new ones. We also had an auction of Marion Krupp prints for rescue.

In June, we all made the trek over to Berryville, VA, to the home of Cathy and Mike Kirby for our conformation match. We had a nice entry. Best Puppy in match was Helen Krisko's Kriscot's Step Into A Dream, who answers to the name of Nicole. Best Adult went to MacIzzy Golden Gael of Hiwood RN, affectionately known as Rubio, owned by Susan Walsh. The judge was Scottie breeder Trish Martell. We had a number of dogs in our parade of champions. The match was followed by a meeting and picnic.

Coming up in September is our meeting and practice match at the home of Helen Prince. And, our specialty is the second Friday in October. If you are coming for Montgomery, stay an extra week and attend our show.

WSSTC had two very successful events in the last couple of months. The first one was "Fala Day," on May 17th, 2008. Sunshine, blue skies, and Scotties, along with a few Westies, all combined to make the "Pala Day" celebration a great success. More than 45 people attended, along with about 35 Scotties and Westies.

Giselle Dew, in full kilt (no small feat on a 90+ degree day) started the day with bagpipes playing and a trail of Scotties, Westies, and their people following her in a short, shady parade.

There were many activities, including a fun match, rally, obedience, and a rescue parade, in which 18 rescued dogs and their people participated. Four themed baskets'were raffled off to lucky recipients in the crowd. One special raffle needed no money. All you had to do was present bagged evidence of picking up after your Scottie or Westie, and you automatically received a chance to win a beautiful Scottie bell! The picnic grounds were spick and span at the end of the day. Special thanks to members Judy Herring, Karin Parish, and Denise Gossett for their planning to make "Fala Day" a resounding success.

The day of the specialty, June 6, 2008, was the exact opposite of 'Fala Day" with drenching rain, but it did not dampen the enthusiasm of the exhibitors and the attendees. There were 40 dogs with 60 entries in this year's specialty. The specialty was dedicated to long time member and Scottie breeder, Harry Hicks, who passed away earlier this year. Special congratulations go to Dr. Vandra Huber and Michael Krolewski for winning the Blackbriar trophy, which went to the individual(s) whose dogs won BOB three times. Congratulations to Margie Vinciguerra and her William for taking BOS, BW, and WD. Congratulations to Bonnie McDonald's Tanister Plaid Legacy, aka Jesse, who finished her CH with a 5 point major. For sweepstakes, Glenby's Regal Spirit, owned by Christine Stephens and Barbara Casey, went BIS.

The WSSTC is raffling off a magnificent handmade, queen-sized Scottish terrier afghan, called "March of the Scotties." You won't want to miss the opportunity to have a chance to own this beautiful afghan. Pictures and raffle ticket information can be found at the WSSTC website, www.wsstc.org. The drawing will be held at our September picnic, and you do not have to be present to win.
