Submitted by Kathy Lee BOARD ACTIONS The approval of all meeting minutes. AKC CORRESPONDENCE A letter received regarding Crufts qualifying shows. A letter regarding the AKC Canine Experience (formerly called the AKC Education Match). GENERAL CORRESPONDENCE A letter received regarding membership status, which is being researched. 2007-2008 Motions & Discussions The Board of Directors of the Great Pyrenees Club of America (GPCA) has taken the following actions: Established a GPCA Junior Recognition Program that will recognize the achievements of junior handlers in Conformation, Performance & Companion Events to include: Junior Handler of the Year, Westminster Junior Showmanship Award and Performance Junior Awards with first awards to be presented in 2009. Sent a letter to the California State Assembly opposing Bill AB1634. Thanked Joan Ziehl for her excellent comprehensive plan for the GPCA Historical Preservation and authorized the purchase of a laptop computer, software and materials to preserve the collection. Approved the flyer prepared by the Disaster Preparedness Committee. Confirmed continued support of the AKC Eukanuba Invitational with purchase of medallions for Best of Breed (BOB), Best of Opposite Sex (BOS) & Best Bred by Exhibitor (BBE). Accepted the recommendation of the Hall of Fame Committee to require a novice agility or novice agility preferred title in addition to a Companion Dog (CD) as an entry to the Obedience Hall of Fame (HOF). Moved that the GPCA Bulletin editor be paid a stipend of $600 per issue effective with the third quarter 2007 issue. Appointed Joan Stewart-Ruiz to the position of Health Committee (HC) Vice-Chair being vacated by Dianne Migas effective 1/1/08. Approved the GPCA's participation in the OFA Champions for Health program with the HC administering the GPCA's portion of the application process. Created a new membership renewal option for members in which a member could elect to prepay membership for a 5 year period. Based on recommendations of the HC, authorize an expenditure of $4,000 from the GPCA funds dedicated to the HC and authorize the HC Chair to instruct the Canine Health Foundation (CHF) to withdraw $6,000 from the GPCA Donor Advised Fund to support CHF Study#757A&B over 2 years to continue to identify genes present in the development of canine osteosarcoma. Based on recommendations of the HC, authorized the expenditure of $2,000 from the GPCA HC funds and authorized the HC Chair to instruct the CHF to spend $3,000 from the Donor Advised Fund over the next 2 years to investigate the role of the STAT3 protein activation in canine osteosarcoma. Moved that the GPCA will give the National Specialty Host Club $1,500 up to one year in advance with the understanding that this would cover ALL GPCA required activities: board and annual meetings, committee meetings, historic preservation, judge's education, tables for sale items and any future required activities. Decided to present to the membership for a vote, the following individuals for consideration as lifetime members: Claire Leishman, Marilyn Thell and Linda Weisser. Appointed Kathleen Monje as the new Bulletin editor. Acknowledged the donation of $2,000 from Garden State GP Club to GPCA Rescue. Confirmed the requirement that any individuals wanting to reproduce materials from the GPCA website must do so in its entirety and credit the GPCA as the source. Corrected the Code OF Ethics implementation section on the website to conform to the GPCA Bylaws. Recognized Judy MacDonald as the new roving reporter for the GPCA National Rescue. Appointed Mary McGuire as the new contact person for public education and breeder referral. Appointed Jody Chiquoine as the Co-Coordinator of the Eastern region for GPCA rescue.
