2008 Annual Meeting Minutes

Westlake, OH
The meeting was called to order at 3:20 p.m, by President, Marcy Bankus. She announced that Roberts Rules of Order will govern. And that all motions must be presented legibly in writing to the Secretary.
The Secretary, Dan Hodel, conducted the roll call by states.
The Sergeants-at-Arms are Whitney Coombs and Bret Zacher. The Minute Review Committee members are Valerie Seeley and Amy Zacher. The Parliamentarian is Ed Brice.
The 2007 Annual Meeting Minutes were approved as printed in the Bulletin.
Christine Palmer-Persen made the motion that dues remain the same. Ruth Marcy seconded. The motion passed.
President's Report - Marcy Bankus presented the President's Report, thanking the Board and requested that members contact Board members throughout the year, not just at National Specialties. She stated that the Board's discussions and motions can be viewed in the hospitality room.
Secretary's Report - Dan Hodel presented the Secretary's report, announcing that membership currently includes 749 members, 666 regular members, 80 associate members, 2 junior members, 1 honorary member.
Treasurer's Report - Christine Palmer-Persen announced that as of March 31, 2008, the net worth is $86,856. The final report will be printed in the Bulletin after the close of the 7/1/07-6/30/08 fiscal year.
Committee Reports -
Joan Ziehl thanked everyone for coming to the Historic Preservation's exhibit of Mary Crane's memorabilia. She also thanked Jo Stubbs for her 10 years of work in gathering and preserving Mary Crane's records and photo albums for the AKC Dog Museum . Historic Preservation donations were requested.
Whitney Coombs announced that the 2010 World Conference, in conjunction with the National Specialty, will be held in Lancaster , PA. This event will mark the 75 th anniversary of GPCA. A round table discussion and other activities are planned. Bob Brown will be the conformation judge. Additional judges will be announced at the 2009 kickoff party.
Kerry Kern Woods reported that 2,000 dogs had been assisted through rescue this year. The full report will be published in an upcoming Bulletin. Jody Chiquoine will co-chair the Eastern region with Terry Stephanick. Kerry and Kathy thanked everyone for their donations to the 2 Dogs 2000 Miles Walk by purchasing shirts at the rescue table, and thanked Jody Chiquoine for all the time and hard work that has gone into the support of this mission. The Board approved up to $1,500 for routine vet care of Hudson and Murphy during the walk.
Kerry Kern Woods reported that Mary McGuire is now the contact for the Public Information Committee, incorporating Breeder Referral.
Darrell Goolsbee reported that Kathleen Monje is the new Bulletin editor and the second quarter issue will be her first issue to produce.
Karen Justin reported that Ways and Means had raised $2,500 to date. A close-out sale is planned for Saturday's showing.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS –
All Committee Chairs were recognized and thanked for their work on their committee.
All people who have helped with Rescue were recognized.
Darrell Goolsbee, our retiring Bulletin Editor was thanked for his 9 years as Bulletin Editor.
Past Board Members were recognized. Past Presidents were recognized.
The Heart of Ohio Great Pyrenees Club was recognized and thanked for their hard work in hosting this national.
The 2011 National Specialty will be hosted by Great Pyrenees Club of Metropolitan Milwaukee.
The Conformation Judge for 2011 will be Jean Fournier with 564 votes; Burton Yamada received 543; Lee Trowbridge Goertz, 484; Whitney Coombs, 458; Susan Preston Malinowski, 436; Alain Pecoult, 378; Roger Tuepker, 321. 225 ballots were received. 11 ballots were not counted; 4 with no member information, no return address or name; 6 marked X's instead of numbers by the names; 1 marked numbers for all eight with duplicate numbers.
The newly elected members of the Board of Directors were announced: Brenda Weiss, Tamra Green and Bret Zacher. A total of 305 members voted. Tamra Green received 202 votes, Catherine Lundberg, 138; Brenda Weiss, 169; and Bret Zacher, 161. All ballots were reported counted.
Retiring Board members, Joe Gentzel, Darrell Goolsbee, and Dan Hodel were thanked.
NEW BUSINESS - None
CONTINUOUS MEMBERSHIP - Jack Perry presented the Continuous Membership Awards.
ANNOUNCEMENTS -
Carolyn Yeager presented 2008 National Specialty updates, reminding everyone of the hotel and show rules. She also advised that there is a memorial journal available for notes and memories of Jan Brown. The journal will be sent to Jan's family upon completion.
The 2009 National Specialty will be hosted by the Great Pyrenees Alliance of the West and held in Santa Barbara , CA , at the Hotel Mar Monte. The 2009 judges will be Jean Pero, Conformation; Janet Ingram, Futurity; Dan Hodel, Sweepstakes.
Flo Laicher announced that Karen Petrovich won the Health Committee's raffle for the basket at the patella clinic. A donation totaling $600.00, in memory of Jan Brown, was received from Jean and Wayne Boyd and Mile High Great Pyrenees Club.
Ruth Marcy invited everyone to attend the Breed Standard Education presentation immediately following the annual meeting. The Breeders Education Committee arranged for this event.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
